My “Realistic” Sewing Plans for 2026
As a new year is upon me I find myself DREAMING of all the things I want to sew this year! However 2026 brings a different focus when it comes to sewing as I came out of 2025 with new realizations about a hobby and craft I love…sometimes LESS is more! In 2025 I tried to achieve so much when it came to sewing that I burned myself out some months and went many weeks without stepping foot in my sewing room. While my 2025 sewing plans weren’t all achieved ( you can watch my 2025 sewing plans video HERE) I surprisingly did actually sew a lot. Nevertheless, going into 2026 I decided I needed to scale back my projects and be more REALISTIC! So with that in mind here is a much shorter list of what I hope to sew this year:
Unique Projects
House DIY Projects - I am planning on sewing many sets of curtains and pillows for our house once we move in!
Baby Quilts & Play Mats - I have 2 other sister in laws expecting this year and I want to make them each quilted circular play mats (like this)
Dresses
Betty Dress Full Skirt - Betty Dress pattern by @caydennaughton
Make it look like a Christy Dawn Candace Dress
The Candace Dress was one of my featured dresses for my #makeitmonday series & you can check out all my details for recreating it HERE
Use rose cotton fabric
Betty Dress Straight Skirt - pattern by @caydennaughton
Red and blue plaid cotton fabric with eyelet lace accents
I made this dress in a long sleeve view during testing for the pattern!
Based on Christy Dawn Kelly Dress
DOEN Sofia Dress- using Silversaga patterns Ella Dress Pattern
Using a colorful Colorful checked from Yardblox (check it out HERE)
Checkout my Sofia #makeitmonday Post HERE
Chloe Dress Hack into Christy Dawn Kaia Dress - Silversaga Patterns Chloe Dress Pattern
Not sure what fabric I want to use for this yet…
Christy Dawn Katrina Dress -
Pink cottage print cotton fabric
I think I am going to self draft this dress because I have made something similar before and filmed a Tutorial for it HERE
There is also THIS Pattern on Etsy that is a perfect match!
Christy Dawn Emma Dress - Self Draft
I have a dress I thrifted with a fun patchwork print that I want to Thrift Flip for this dress
I also have a Patchwork fabric I bought from a sewing friend on Instagram and think it would make such a cute summer version of the Emma Dress
Here is a similar pattern to the Emma dress that could be easily Hacked
Tops & Blouses
DOEN June Top Hack - with Picnic Set pattern from @caydennaughton
Might make this in a gingham or a floral print
I also featured the DOEN June top in my #makeitmonday series with multiple patterns you can hack, so check out that post HERE
Celine Top - Silversaga Patterns
Blue and brown plaid fabric
Jackets & Pants
Striped Green Pants -
I am thinking either of sewing the Lane Pants by Sydney Graham (which is one of my most sewn patterns & most sewn and worn pair of pants) or the Potting Pants by Allotmentclothing
I have a striped green and white douvet from Ralph Lauren that I think would be a perfect pants.
I might also sew a pink stripe…yes, I have a thing for striped!
Cedar Pants Pattern- @Leila.makes
I have been meaning to sew a pair of work pants for my husband, so I want to sew a Brown duck canvas pant for my husband (I am using THIS brown duck canvas from Fabric Wholesale Direct)
Baja Barn Jacket (His & Hers)- Cayden Naughton
This barn jacket is similar to the DOEN barn jacket that I featured in my #makeitmonday series HERE
Last February 2025 my husband and I picked out fabric for a His & Hers set of Barn Jackets and I am finally hoping to sew them this year.
My Husband picked out two wool fabrics and his outer wool fabric is a twill suiting…making for a more stylish and elevated barn jacket.
I picked out a light brown canvas for my jacket and a rust colored gingham check for the lining…I might make the collar a corduroy fabric.
It will be interesting to see how many of these I sew OR what NEW projects derail these plans…lol! I am challenging myself not to take on any new pattern tests this year (as much as I love them and working with designers) and simply sticking to my plans listed above.
I would love to know what you are hoping to and planning to SEW this year! Drop a comment below and tell me all your plans!
xoxo, Madison
